Letter: Echoes of the KKK

Are NEW TV and the City of Newton linking themselves to the message of the Ku Klux Klan? The TAB often reports that hate fliers from the Klan's Boston Chapter have been discovered on the lawns of Newton homes. The KKK (aka White Supremacists, Neo-Nazis, Skinheads, etc.) publish in their literature that Time Warner, Disney, NBC Universal, Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and Viacom "rule America." According to their "Research Project", the mass media "... is really monolithic... television, radio, newspapers, magazines, books, motion pictures - speak with a single voice." The KKK asks, "And who are these all-powerful masters of the media? To a very large extent they are Jews." Why has the Newton TAB failed to report Mayor Cohen's full statement in his Media Democracy Week proclamation (March 20-26) that "... few people know that the CEO's of six huge corporations are responsible for the content of nearly all the regular TV and cable TV programming we see... the CEO's of AOL Time Warner, Disney, Bertelsmann, Viacom, Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and Vivendi Universal" - language strikingly similar to NEW TV's Feb. 25 and 28 e-mails to its members that included links, attachments and resources alleging, in part, "... the number of corporations that control most U.S. information has dropped from 50 in 1984 to just 5 in 2004...a handful of companies dominate - Viacom, Disney, Time Warner, News Corp. and NBC/GE ... control the big four networks ... most cable channels as well as vast holdings in radio, publishing, movie studios, music, Internet and other sectors." This information was new to many NewTV members but not to longtime political activists who understand that political extremism on the left eventually meets up with political extremism on the right. Why are NewTV and the City of Newton linking themselves to the same message as the KKK?
